the second release on the mister saturday night label by archie pelago, a brooklyn-based band that has played both the mister saturday night and mister sunday parties. they are a trio of players whose lighthearted name belies the seriousness of their music. consisting of a classically trained cellist, a classically trained saxophone player and a live programmer/dj, they make songs that work as well on dancefloors as they do in headphones.

over the course of a year, keith fullerton whitman performed a piece of live electronic music a few dozen times entitled >generator<. the debut was given in san francisco at root stratas on land festival at cafe du nord on september 19th, 2009 … over the months that followed stagings took place in venues ranging from flooded basements to festival stages in baltimore, boston, brooklyn, chicago, easthampton, iowa city, jamaica plain, northampton, raleigh, saint louis, san francisco, somerville, & washington d.c.
this lp covers the final two performances of the piece over two consecutive evenings , the opening solo set from the final night of high zero festival in baltimore at the theater project, september 26th, 2010, then the performance during the for eliane night of the propensity of sound festival dedicated to eliane radigues work at issue project room, brooklyn, september 27th, 2010. these recordings show the piece in two different iterations, taking two different trajectories entirely. they are considered as the definitive versions of the piece.

last years tbg01 was charted by german djane ellen allien and broadcasted by gilles peterson of bbc-international fame - amongst others. the second installment (with the slightly confusing catalog-number tbg04) changes its appearance from white-label 12 inch in a black & white gatefold cover to heavy white vinyl in a multicolored disco-sleeve. the labels patron arthur boto conley showcases the work of obscure 1980s producer clifford trunk. the lo-fi dance and ambient tracks origin from a tape which was hand to conley by trunk during a brief encounter at düsseldorfs ratinger hof in 1986. depicted on the cover you can see italian designer ettore sottsass work for the fashion company esprits european headquarter which opened up the same year. clifford trunk was working for the sottsass associati from 1982 on and had a leisure time obsession for drum-computers and sample synths. what a serendipity! - limited to 333 records.

the second release from discovery recordings comes from chicagos olin and co. processing. >compton< kicks it off with hypnotic vocals made ready for the dance floor by an infectious rolling bass-line and filtered keys. >oslo< is built on dueling arps and spacey percussion that together cultivate a swirling deepness. on remix duty, glasgows ooft! delivers a dance floor ready rework with rooted in a chugging 303 and classic stabs, while berlins nils penner lays down a piece of work perfect for dimly lit rooms. as with the first discovery release, they are hand stamped, vinyl only, and limited pressing.

kyle geiger brings you his third installment on his imprint cubera in a quest to bridge some crucial gaps between house and techno constituents. this time, taking it a little deeper with the use of vocal work from vocalist stefanie jansen for the title track scream, weaving her voice in and out of a strong synth and percussion work out. in the second mix of the a-side, truncate lends his tough, stripped style for his remix of >scream<, providing a welcome contrast to the original. on the other side, >underneath< adjusts the eps sweat dial to 11 with its shit-losing, raw synth hook. the fact that this track even has a sweat dial that goes up to 11 should communicate something really special. the final track step brings more of an stabby, yet scaled back afterhours vibe to round things out, while still carrying enough critical mass to make things a little messy.

seattle-based electro and bass producer 214 delivers four heavy bass workouts for yellow machines tenth release. heavy, tight machine drum rhythms, rolling basslines and bright synths is the concept for this ep. references to boddika and convex have already been made with 214s previous tracks, and this ep is heavier and more driving than any of his other work to date. proper dance floor damage is guaranteed.
